👨‍đŸ’ģ Matthieu V. Just came along obsidian.md it make me want to structure my notes/ideas but I don't really know where and how to start... Maybe it would be a great software to start doing some daily journaling
Nick S. I downloaded Obsidian recently, and as a casual Wikipedian, enjoy the idea of [[linking]] more than I like Notion databases. I've always wanted to use one of these knowledgebase apps, but my life simply isn't complex enough to warrant it yet :)
🏒 Lucian Marin On Linux you can use Dash to Panel on left side of the screen. Same can be done on Windows to save vertical space. 16:10 is a lot better for content creation, 16:9 is for content consumption.
Vincent L. Thanks for the suggestion, very nice of you :) Under Linux I'd actually be using Xmonad or StumpWM to have my screen /full/. When reading code, my mind-buffer is sometimes blurry, I need my screen to show me as much state as it can. Rant is over. There's not fighting against The Market. But I won't buy a Thinkpad until they have proper screens back :p Nay, Lenovo.

😌 Ismail How do you deal with loss of motivation?
☝ī¸ Jean-David Moisan Sometimes there's no way. One thing that helps me is I keep track of what I'm doing over time. I wrote an article about that a while back: jeandavidmoisan.co... It's so easy to take yourself for granted and forget all that you went through to reach your current state.

đŸ–Ĩī¸ Lesha That's not just about upgrading, you can't replace it either if it goes bad. I know that in Linux you can mark some of its parts as *bad* so that kernel won't use them, I don't know if that's possible with MacOS.
đŸĨ Mr There are about 5,000 parts in a computer that you can't replace when they go bad without soldering / reworking. Many times apple will replace your computer for free even when it's out of warranty as long as you didn't damage it. Replaceable ram is mostly about upgrading, but apple computers just aren't upgradable anymore. It's a different approach, they want faster ram and thinner devices (and I do too). I have to swap the entire machine to upgrade - I'm cool with it.

Cole Hudson I think the best way to keep space, or at least cis-lunar space, as peaceful as can be will require some combination of an open skies treaty with some form of golden arches doctrine. The implementation of the former is pretty obvious, I'm unsure how to guarantee the latter however. Some form of equity seems appropriate though.

Zero Edge If we never had knowledge of a Shark or that it could attack you. We would swim in the ocean without any fear of an "attack". Of these "ignorant" people the majority would never learn about Sharks because they would never encounter one. If they did, most would not be attacked. Instead we fear the slim possibility of a shark attack that 99.99% of people will never experience. Information is the opposite of power.

💩 Niklas The short story you're sharing on your now page sounds like you're living the dream! :) Glad you can explore new places and learn new languages. Here's my now page, that I actually should update again: niklasbuehler.com/...
🧉 Martin It's definitely a little surreal to be using Esperanto so often :) Glad to find at least one other person here with a /now. Grillradar is a cool idea, and I really like the design.

👉 LÊo I hate how in the US we have to buy medical "insurance". Insurance makes sense for things likes cars and houses, not humans. Cars don't have chronic problems or syndromes. Cars don't have preexisting conditions (you normally get a factory warranty). If a car is beyond repair, you eventually get a new one and move on. I think making something as complex as healthcare fit the shape of insurance is dehumanizing.

Diva I felt ill today, and I couldn't work; didn't enjoy my food and couldn't focus on my usual relaxing pursuits. We take good health for granted, don't we?
🚴 Aditya Yep! I hope you're feeling better. It's not COVID I hope? :\
đŸĨ Mr sometimes you have a bad day. Sleep it off and try again tomorrow.

Mike V. Totally agree (about the "cutting down" bit) - but I'm curious about what you find hard about being veggie? I suppose I've been doing it so long I don't notice any more - but I'm quite rare [see what I did there] in that I'm a vegetarian who once upon a time quite liked meat. I gave it up purely for the hell of it and haven't really ever looked back.
😏 Yt L. Partly, I just like the taste of meat and don't really feel satiated without eating it. Another part is that so many foods have meat it's natural to eat it at restaurants, with friends and family, or at home.

😃 Javier I love country driving with winding roads and hills. I had the commute from hell from Richardson TX, to Grand Praire TX back in the 90s. Oh I-35 Mixmaster where I-35 North South splits on I-35W North South and I-35E North South south of DALLAS. Few places are more unfriendly to the driver in the US, NJ Turnpike comes to mind, right by Liberty Airport.
M_dow I commuted from Irving to Garland and back one semester, and that was pretty awful. I'll grant you that.

🧉 Martin That's awesome! Give me a shout if I can help :) Here are my Esperanto projects, by the way, some of which you may find helpful (like the speech robot): esperanto.martinru...

🧉 Martin A few years ago I decided to learn Esperanto (the constructed language). I now spend anywhere from a few hours to a few days per week speaking it with friends from around the world. AMA :) (or just shake your head disapprovingly)

Diva I used to think that listening to audio books was "cheating" somehow; I don't really know why. But I am currently listening to a non-fiction book and I am really enjoying it. How do you feel about audio books?
😏 Yt L. I like them! I haven't listened to any since quarantine though. I used to walk about 30 minutes to and from work every day, great chance to listen to an audiobook or a podcast.

đŸĒ Danilo Hadn't heard of volapuk before! Nice. I speak portuguese and started learning a bit of german on duolingo a while ago; I dropped studying it(for now) so I only know a phrase or two. Still, I find it so cool to see how similar it is to english; I didn't experience/don't remember/experienced in a different way when learning english!
🧉 Martin Awesome! I find the links between languages fascinating, even more so when no obvious links appear to exist, such as in the case of Basque. I initially found German quite a challenge grammatically, but it became a bit easier once I had the confidence and practice from speaking Esperanto.
