☕ David Antoine Awesome commercial (that's rare) about a railway company in Japan... It also shows how committed they were to get it done and the CGI involved was not used as you would initially think when watching the clip... youtube.com/watch?...
Zero Edge In my opinion analogies like this: japantimes.co.jp/o... are completely moronic. Young adults and senior citizens both kill more people in car accidents than "middle aged". Should we bar these people from driving because they pose a greater risk?

Cole Hudson Curious why so few are talking about Shinzo Abe leaving office rn, his absence will make for a vastly different world
Diva The announcement made it onto the UK news on Friday, just before a long weekend. It would have had a more prominent place in our news cycle if it wasn't for the US elections and the unrest in Belarus. It will be interesting to read the assessments of his (second) premiership. As Japan's longest serving PM, he will certainly be missed by other leaders, especially in the G7.

🗨️ Fui I always struggle with that idea of collective learning. Why? Because there is no collective brain to hold the collective memory. History is not a collective memory we share, just an abstraction held by individuals and their individual brains. There is no we to remember, no we that forgets. That's why stupid mistakes happen again and again.
Diva Well, I think that some countries/governments have learned lessons. I am thinking in particular of Germany and Japan, both of them have recognised the futility of war. I totally understand the history behind this though. Germany ensures that its full history and role in WW2 is taught in schools, hopefully so that those horrors are never forgotten, never repeated.

😃 Javier UV light and and a vacuum will reduce the population. A water bed will do too plus take you back to the 80's
🏛️ Brandon Pittman Bed vacuums are a pretty common thing here in Japan.

🔻 Trinity Anki has been invaluable for my learning Japanese. It gamifies it enough to be rewarding but not enough to become addicting.
🐧 Aditya Another Anki japanese learner reporting in! I use the KanjiDamage and 2k core vocab decks. Wbu guys?

🎲 James York I used it only for studying Japanese too (haven't found a use for it outside of that though...)

🧉 Martin With regards to remembering things, I use Anki. It's old school, but by far still one of the best flash card apps. Flash cards combined with spaced repetition has been shown time and time again to be one of the most effective ways to remember things. I use it mostly for foreign language vocabulary, but sometimes other things I want to ensure stay available in my mind. Not note taking per se, but thought it was worth mentioning.

🔻 Trinity Typed "konnichiwa! watashi wa debin desu." in Japanese and it romanized as "honnichiha!Si hadebindesu." Not terrible.

🍵 Neo I've always dreamt of having a spouse I would spend time with, in a nice area of Japan away from the city. We would have a garden, a Shiba Inu, and we would go to the local market to purchase groceries. We would listen to music together. You know, just enjoy each other and just live life, not just experience it. A quiet, peaceful, and simple life.
Wistar An article I recently read about an American expat couple buying and restoring a large 130-year-old country house, a "kominka," complete with most or all of its several-generations prior owner's contents. I thought it quite interesting--and appealing. cnn.com/travel/art...
