๐Ÿฆ„ Chip Uni What (if anything) do you listen to while you're programming, or doing work that requires a lot of concentration?

๐Ÿ’ช Joe A lot of Spotify. Usually instrumental or harder to understand vocals. Have had it hooked up to last FM so that's fun to look at stats and whatnot last.fm/user/joewrong
Rai I put my favourite online streaming radios in a git repo and pick from there. github.com/kidd/ra... . Feel free to add yours there!
๐Ÿ”š Bort Simpson Lou Reed - "Metal Machine Music" on repeat for 8 hours every weekday
Adsr Music I'm used to.
Chicken Waffles nothing that has lyrics or singing-including chants by gregorian monks. preferrably uptempo and melodic
๐Ÿฆž Lob Ster I used to listen to whatever was familiar on repeat -- one year I listened to Sufjan Steven's Christmas album for most of the year! Now I mostly listen to lo-fi hip hop or cafe jazz music , although I'm trying to get used to silence.
Ian Kettlewell I alternate between music and ambient rain. Music can feel too distracting, but it keeps me motivated.
Michael Toomim All the wonderful ambient tracks at musicforprogrammin...
๐Ÿงจ Stephen Coley Anything from metalcore to hiphop to soundtracks to dreampunk. Sometimes I'll put on one of my favorite horror movies.
โšซ Aaron what kind of metalcore have you been bumping lately?
๐Ÿงจ Stephen Coley The newest would be the latest Code Orange album. Some others I rotate often though are Converge, The Bled, Fear Before, Cult Leader, Oathbreaker, Leeched, etc...
โšซ Aaron I was recently turned onto Code Orange. So good. Converge and The Bled are staples. Haven't heard of Leeched. Going to check that out right now.
๐Ÿงจ Stephen Coley Code Orange's new album is nuts. Love it. Been a long time Converge and The Bled fan. The Bled was my first hardcore show along with Senses Fail and My Chemical Romance for like $12. I miss those days.
๐Ÿšฒ Koen West Recently I have started to use a particular combination of ambient noises with the app Dark Noise (which I can highly recommend), and I now notice that it really gets me in the zone. I have different noises set up for different tasks.
๐ŸŒš Nlggers I enjoy listening to chillstep and synthpop while programming.
Sr The "Organic Chill" playlist on Spotify is my go-to. It's interesting but not distracting.
๐Ÿƒ Matt Harwood Big fan of Lo-fi. Nightride.fm is a good place for cyberpunk / Lo-fi, as well as Youtube...
Xy i like having twitch irl streams running in the background that i don't need to pay attention to. it gives me that coffee shop vibe i miss, which i know not everyone enjoys, but works for me.
๐Ÿงฌ Thomas This sounds intriguing. Any particular sorts of streams?
Xy i really enjoy bike touring, so right now i have twitch.tv/hitch in the background. he's cycling across canada, currently on day #19 of a ~3mo journey. i also like twitch.tv/healthygamer_gg who is a harvard trained psychiatrist discussing mental health issues with streamers.
Joseph Gilmore Have you done much bike touring yourself? Where have you gone? It's something I really want to get into but currently don't have the money for a new bike or equipment.
Xy i have only done one long, unsupported tour around the pacific nw with a group of buddies, but i ride pretty frequently around my current city. once it's easier and safer to travel internationally, my dream is to ride the silk road. i purchased my current touring bike (miyata 1000lt) used for about $500 a decade ago from a really nice guy off craigslist who had ridden it from london to singapore.
๐Ÿ—จ๏ธ Fui The beautiful and monotonous klic klac of my keyboard. Pure zen.
๐Ÿ˜ƒ Javier cmd.to chillout
๐Ÿ‘Œ Ramsey "Lofi beats to chill/study to"
Nick Thomas Pretty much ditto on that. Love the vibe. Makes me feel like I could go on forever, well till i am no longer productive.
Joseph Gilmore Yep same. Mostly mixes on SoundCloud or albums on Bandcamp. ChillHop Essential albums are especially good. chillhop.bandcamp....
Juha My man. Can also reccommend "Podcast Addict" on Android and its electronic radio stations, I think it be called SOMA FM or something of the sorts
๐Ÿงฉ Ben used to listen to whatever was on spotify, now i realized it's nice to work in silence
Yo Dude yeah, this #Covid-19 has made me break few of my own stereotypes, one being listening to music while working..
Mihail Anything instrumental that can move to the background once in 'the zone'. If I like the music too much I never get around to beginning the work. Be Svendsen does the trick for me.
Van Le Instrumental of pop songs
Daedalus is there a search term/playlist for it or do you just search "instrumental <pop song>"?
