Aadil Ghani I used to receive so many scam calls, do you want to buy a property in Bali? My constant answer no, No, NO! So at one point we decided to build a product that messes with the scammers instead by bullshitting and wasting their time till they never call you back. In the process we got some users who hacked their way to use it as a personal phone robot. Hereby I'm opening doors now for public access, get your phone robot that installs on your phone number and takes your missed calls whilst annoying scam callers - at the end of each call you get a WhatsApp+Email sent to you. 🏒 Lucian Marin I implemented CVs. I don't have a personal website any longer. My Subreply profile is my website.
🏒 Lucian Marin What phone do you have? I have a Motorola Edge 50 Neo.
👨🏻‍💻 Moroni Company-issued iPhone 15, though I'm personally an Apple fan myself.
Zero Edge Tis the season when politicians pretend to put your struggles and cares over their personal agenda. Once they are elected they go back to putting their ambitions over your cares. Give me a man of the people. One who's focus is on the people during election time as well as after.
🏒 Lucian Marin I can implement support for pictures, but the price will be $1 per picture.
😀 Tom I personally don't mind that price, but I have no pictures that I want to post. I like the text-only aspect of the site too. I feel like adding pictures might just make Subreply look more like Twitter or Facebook.
⌨️ Joseph Nice! Do you work as a web dev? I'm stuck with Windows, we're a .Net Framework shop.
🌚 Cosmo I was working as a computational neuroscientist back then, primarily using Python and MATLAB. However, in the 2 years and 5 weeks since I last replied, things have changed quite a bit! I'm now working as a machine learning research engineer, and I'm forced to use macOS at work now. (At least it's Unix!) We're a Python shop, although I end up writing quite a bit of Java and even a little JavaScript sometimes. On the bright side, my personal Arch Linux machines are still going strong, and I've even added a few more to the herd!
😀 Tom I'm an idiot. So a while back I figured out how to get my Windows and Ubuntu partitions to share the same Bluetooth mouse without repairing it each time (the instructions online did not work), and now that I re-installed Ubuntu, I forgot how exactly I did it. I could have just copied the config, but I didn't think to. Here's to another X hours trying to figure it out again :-/
🐸 Simon This happened to me so many times! Losing all my config after messing up my Linux install, I've become paranoid and now just keep up a personal wiki with all my ultra specific config so I don't have to tweak stuff and dig up old StackOverflow topics for hours. Good luck brother
😁 James Hall Hey subreply! I've been looking for a simple alternative to twitter, and I think this just might be it. This community feels slow, but thoughtful and personal. Better than the hecticness that is most of the internet
🏒 Lucian Marin You're not the only one. Paul for example on 0xff.nu/social-net... wants something simpler than Subreply. I don't know how that can be possible while remaining usable.
Nolan Working in the covid-19 crisis unit, more and more people are getting infected within our personal environment. We're just enough healthy personnel left to keep up the work and are preparing for a 'working-lockdown', meaning that we don't leave the base and build shower containers and beds to rotate in a 24/7 shift system. The impacts are getting closer.
🏒 Lucian Marin Reminds me of the mistake I made when I renamed Sublevel to Sub.Cafe. Paying for a premium domain isn't ideal. Also, scaling is an issue for media rich sites.
😀 Tom One issue I do have with that site, well maybe two, is that it's very cluttered and I don't like the design. Fixing the design and making it cleaner could fix the clutter. The one issue I have with Subreply that hey.cafe does better with, is the continuity of the replies. I don't like how on Subreply they are all broken up, and you can't read all the text of what's being replied to. I guess another thing I'm not sure about the other site, is having different cafes for things. I guess I'm more interested in personal conversations than a mini-reddit.
🤚🏻 Vivek I am thinking of starting a personal blog, any suggestions?
🏒 Lucian Marin Check out the blogging services created by .
👨‍💻 Matthieu V. if you're willing to build it yourself, I can recommend eleventy 11ty.dev
Zero Edge Just fyi, from an employer: If you have no work history from about May 2020 - September 2021, you look like a lazy who sat on the sidelines while the majority of us worked our butts off. Gives off a bad impression. Probably better to make something up for those dates..
🐓 Mega "Worked on personal projects" lol
🏒 Lucian Marin Let's do it. This weekend I will try to merge threads and replies in a single feed and do the same for profiles. Discover is the most visited page.
🧐 Nrmn I'll be participating as an extra for some shooting today. I don't know any details yet though. There are also some unit tests to be written (work related) and my personal page to be rewritten.
🗿 Jonah I'm starting college in a few months. Does anyone here have advice for anything?
😃 Javier Some experience a culture shock in the dorms or the classroom. Expectations are high and unknown. Lectures may sound familiar or unfamiliar. If I had to go back I would take better care of my time management and clear, concise and attainable academic and personal goals. I would not be afraid to say no if comes down to do things that I clearly don't like.
🏒 Lucian Marin I want to add social links to profiles. What other social networks do you use?
🤖 Seirdy Fediverse (Mastodon, Pleroma, etc), personal website, lobste.rs, Hacker News, Teddit, and some others. I'd say that arbitrary key-value fields on profiles would be better; one column can be the name of the platform while the other an be a URL, similar to what most Fediverse sites do.
