🏕ī¸ Autumn How do I report content? Just saw the N word being used as a username. :/

🧔 Justin I think you can make arguments about censorship and slippery slopes, but at the end of the day, it's going to be hard to take a message board seriously that allows those sorts of usernames to exist.

🌚 Nlggers I don't think the primary concern of a message board is to be taken seriously.

đŸļ Ted Bumby I'm curious what type of social media sub reply is going for. Is it more like an old school forum with some 21st century style to it? I like that it's kind of anon. But it does seem a little 4chan-ish to have the n-word for your name.

🗜ī¸ Mx Lol. Here comes the thought police. How can any normal 21st century person be okay with illegal words, animals, plants or people?

🌚 Nlggers I agree with this sentiment. I am concerned with the direction western tech platforms are taking with regard to censorship. My anecdotal experience has been that in the early 2000s censorship was more prevalent among companies outside of the US (Daily Motion for example) and with the introduction of American companies offering similar services (YouTube) things became more free. Now the opposite has become true with Google introducing programatic censorship via Perspective API

👉 LÊo I will play devil's advocate and say that unfortunately some moderation is still needed in today's society. I agree with you: it is archaic to have to police which words people use. I try to see this policing as an act of kindness towards people that for one reason or another may be sensitive to a given word. My wife has Romani ethnicity so the expression "gypped" hurts her a little every time she hears it. "Oh, but she can just ignore it!" Yeah, that's not how brains work.

🌘 Alana because I'm transgender, and it honestly just fukin wears me down to see slurs thrown around casually. stopped using a forum I liked because one of the users had "tr*nny" in their name. it just sucks, you know? I'll go somewhere else, and then the racists and people who are okay with racists will stay. evaporative cooling, if you will. check out decriminalizenatur... btw.

🕴ī¸ Matthew Townsend Illegal? A normal 21st Century person doesn't have to be okay with anything. There's certainly nothing wrong with forum moderation by the people hosting them.

đŸĻ† Matt Costa I've got to agree. Decided to show my partner what I was looking at, her response was "will be, or soon will be, full of racists like Gab". My response was "It's just a niche hacker crowd, very benign". She claimed victory in one page click.

🗨ī¸ Fui I agree -- some sort of moderation is needed. Contrary to what Descartes thought, common sense is not the most widely distributed thing in the world. And with internet anonimity comes all the noise brought by trolls.

đŸŽ¯ Gallium Oxide Save your time and don't bother. Filtered words are already circumvented on other platforms with euphemisms ('jogger' for nigger) or simple character substitutions (e.g. g00k). And as Tyler the Creator famously said, "how the fuck is cyber-bullying real nigga, just look away, just walk away from the screen haha"
