Chetan Vashisht How has corona changed your life?
🕴ī¸ Matthew Townsend I don't know how much it has. All the concerts and festivals we wanted to go to got cancelled, but we just had a baby so we weren't going to any of them anyway. Now we don't need an excuse to work from home, and haven't needed to find anyone to take care of the kid during the day.

Miso What are you current projects?
🕴ī¸ Matthew Townsend Building a rock tumbler that can fit several 3-gal buckets with screw-top lids. Found a nice continuous duty motor to drive it. I just need to get the belts and drive wheels figured out.

đŸ§ŋ Andrea Veggie burgers man, they come in hundreds of types and they're delicious, cheaper, pain free and easy to store in the freezer! (and you can still eat steaks now and then)
🕴ī¸ Matthew Townsend I'm looking forward to vat meat production colocated in cities, along with highly industrialized vertical farms.

☕ David Antoine Maybe splitting the big industrial production livestocks into smaller local ones and the promotion/support of it could be part of the solution. Idk. Also, the pesticides/chemicals massively used in agricultural production should be pointed out and it's just as bad. So I'm just trying to eat local as much as possible, meat and vegetables. Not going to stop eating good meat (I don't tell people they are bad based on what they eat). I might test a veggie burger out of curiosity.
🕴ī¸ Matthew Townsend If it's all done in one place, waste can be dealt with at scale. I'd argue local is worse for the environment, while what's best would be moving food production into highly industrialized vertical farms and vats colocated in the cities where people are. China relied on small local farms and it resulted in famines, which is why they started moving people to cities and industrializing food production. Self-sufficiency is the road to poverty.

👉 LÊo This is a question that a colleague asked me a couple years ago, and it just keeps coming back to me. If one becomes informed about the damage that our meat consumption is causing on the planet, does it become immoral for one to consume meat? Say, if you watch a couple documentaries on Netflix and continue consuming meat, does that make you a bad person? I don't really have an answer. I think about it every time I eat a burger.
🕴ī¸ Matthew Townsend Given that some amount of meat is healthier than none, you'd probanly be fine reducing your consumption by an order of magnitude. What I'd argue would be immoral is continuing to eat meat while eschewing genetically modified vat meat when that becomes available. It's hard to say whether or not cutting consumption now will bring that to market any sooner.

❄ī¸ Geoff Yes, but it limits your ability to continue the conversation at the original level... forces conversations to diverge

🕴ī¸ Matthew Townsend This is going to be fun. I got too used to being able to edit typos. Typing on mobile constrains how much of the input field you can read at once before submitting.

🗜ī¸ Mx First off, there is no such thing as "transgender". You can mutilate your body all you want and take all the pharmaceuticals you can, you still won't be able to change your gender. You're just going to look weird and condemn yourself to a lifetime of social agony. Secondly, nobody owes you comfort and happiness. If words offend you, then you're already vulnerable to all forms of communication and you should stay away from people in general - both online and offline alike.
🕴ī¸ Matthew Townsend If transgender isn't a thing, are we rolling back intersex too? Do we go back to chucking hermaphrodites off cliffs? Are we going to be like Iran with there 0% homosexuality rate? What are people like Caster Semenya?

🗜ī¸ Mx Lol. Here comes the thought police. How can any normal 21st century person be okay with illegal words, animals, plants or people?
🕴ī¸ Matthew Townsend Illegal? A normal 21st Century person doesn't have to be okay with anything. There's certainly nothing wrong with forum moderation by the people hosting them.
