How do you manage your read list? Where do you bookmark things to read? I have been using readup.com and it's been amazing for deep reading an entire article and then share your views.

I have a big "media to consume" note file broken down in to headings; Shows, movies, books, and articles. Then under each specific entry I include why the item made the list which is often a comment copy and pasted from reddit or hn. Other times it's things like "also wrote x which you really enjoyed". I find that context is important otherwise when I come back to the list I'm just like "why the hell did I want to read about y?" and don't bother.

I'm new to playing Dota 2. The community doesn't seem as toxic as I heard it would be. I'm also in the middle of playing Arx Fatalis!

Everyone who I know who has got really in to mobas including myself has got to the point where they're playing just to play despite it no longer being fun. Like a job that doesn't come with a paycheck. Be sure to check in with yourself regularly about if you're actually being entertained.

Is there is such thing as national US news site that is not politically biased?
Jayden
Wire services are as close as you're going to get. Agence France-Presse, Associated Press, Reuters. They're in the journalism business. They get news and then sell it to all of the "news" companies that then smear their bias all over it to make their readership more outraged, smug, happy, whatever emotions get them the most riled up and likely to keep coming back.

subreply does not have a clear focus. Unlike a subreddit where people are seeking a specific type of content. rn it just feels like one big chat room with little common topics. IDK if that is a good or bad thing.

I've just signed up. I find the concept of Subreply intriguing but I am at a loss to know how to go around to get a feel for what's happening. Could I please get some suggestions. Thanks and cheers.

Wasn't there some Taleb essay about 4% of population being extremist enough to make whole nation extremist? Seems very intuitive if thought in context of network science. Explains why Twitter turned into pretty much private network of already well connected people.

Is HN crowd alt-right? I see frustration brewing there often, but it's more of a 'I'm stuck at coding embedded sys for oil company at 240k/yr' kind of a thing than 'I hate poor people'
Jayden
I would say that a low percentage of HN is alt right but that both HN and the alt right are largely overly online young men. The thing is you don't need much political extreme to start a landslide in one direction. Things are a little more X here than elsewhere, some people that don't like that leave, some people that do like that show up because of it, things are even more X, repeat.

Has the pandemic impacted your mental health? How are you holding up?

I was quarantined for a fortnight and received a wellness check from the government near the end of it. When the lady was asking how I was doing I interpreted it as did I have all the supplies I needed. Didn't occur to me that being locked away for two weeks was something that could be devastating. So yeah it hasn't been too big of a deal, I was living a lockdown lifestyle before it was cool.
