Zero Edge biting my tongue more often these days.
Rsm That's a very good exercise, generally speaking, for all of us. I have a few marks on my tongue, probably need a few more.

Zero Edge I don't understand the idea of vaccinating low risk individuals while having minimal long term data. I believe it is a choice that each individual should make for themselves but to me it seems like the high risk are placing their burdens on the low risk. The low risk have to inherit more risk to protect the high risk. Why?
☕ David Antoine One of our politicians in Belgium said that the unvaccinated should examine their conscience for basically putting vaccinated people at risk. In practice, one vaccinated will be safe in general while still possibly getting sick and transmitting the virus. If anything, they are a danger to the unvaccinated now. As to why? Well, $55bn for Pfizer this year, $40bn for Moderna just in "COVID market". Not sure it is still about heath at this point, contracts are signed for 2022.

😀 Tom When I work with kids, I'm told that I have patience with them. I don't feel like I'm doing anything out of the ordinary, just treating a kid how they need to be treated. If people go out of their way to praise that quality, then it must be a rare quality. That's scary.
☝ī¸ Jean-David Moisan That's something I notice too in general.

👉 LÊo The general failure and ultimate collapse of the Texas power grid should forever be remembered as a failure of unregulated capitalism. For the numerous failures and tragedies broadly attributed to "socialism", I think it is fair to blame this on on capitalism.
🏀 Pr Interesting, i generally agree. capitalism is terrible at planning for the worst case scenario. See also: the pandemic

Zero Edge Money = motivation in capitalism. What motivation mechanisms are there with socialism? I would think that part of the reason we have advanced so far in the past few hundred years is largely because of the motivations provided by capitalism. Can it go too far? Obviously.. True capitalism means monopolies..
☕ David Antoine Wind turbines are a minority in Texas energy mix right? And you shouldn't rely on it to cover your spikes for obvious reasons. For what I know, TX power companies ensure a strictly minimal energy outpout with no regards for potential crisis situatioms. In fact, in case of crisis, as the blizzard that occurred, they will profit off of it by spiking electricity prices due to high demand /black outs. The excuse being : oh it's such a rare occurance, why spending for prevention?

Cole Hudson Curious what percentage of the world's knowledge of how to build advanced, commercial robotics is available within Boston Dynamics exclusively. Skydio also comes to mind as having great autonomous navigation software. Hope they generalize (and/or sell) the technology that allows them to build relatively small and nimble robots, would like to see more startups in that space.

Nick Silvestri Where did the version of myself that was excited to program and advance my career go? They disappeared sometime after I got my first development job.
☝ī¸ Jean-David Moisan Do you have new passions now or you're just feeling down in general?

👂 Sly If we can make components so fast and so thin, why don't we take the effort to make them modular? That's actually how the future is supposed to be, what's the point of progress if we all end up with thin and fast walled gardens that we don't even comprehend? I am just hoping that other chip makers won't go down that path and make wise choices for a better future and not just a faster and a thinner one.
đŸĨ Mr modular in general = more complex, more expensive, larger, more heat. The future is not modular, the future is smaller, faster, cheaper, recyclable. Modular has nothing to do with it, it's an option. You can have both. Modular is only less expensive for incremental updates, it's actually more expensive in the long term.

🧐 Nrmn Going well. Trying to get new shoes. Mine are falling apart. Literally. But it's always hard to find shoes because I never know what to look for.
🚴 Aditya I know that feel all too well. I usually rely on friends to point me in a general direction and then pick something up hehe

🚴 Aditya So I just tried to ask "How's everyone doing?" but it turns out I asked that 6 weeks ago as well. But anyway, how's everyone doing now? :D
🧐 Nrmn Generally good but a lot of personal stuff on my plate currently and it is just not feasible to procrastinate them further. Starting a hormone therapy actually today. It's about ekzema though, nothing mind blowing. Next step: start actual therapy to figure out that whole ADHD thing.

👨‍đŸ’ģ Matthieu V. I'm with you on the point of the small community, it's really pleasant, on the other hand on the fediverse I broke my bubble filter a little bit and I find a lot of talented people in their field or some nice persons (:
đŸĸ Keb Perhaps this is what I need to do on Mastodon. I guess my issue is just that -- I don't know who the good people are to follow! It's easy enough on Twitter, because everyone has a Twitter, so the people I find interesting are certainly on there (but I don't like the Twitter experience in general, so I avoid it). Hoping nitter.net eventually has features for logging in and creating a personal feed. :)

đŸĸ Keb Is adblock stealing? Do you use adblock? Why? Sure, advertisers don't have the right to your attention, but don't the content creators have the right to your financial support?
đŸĩ Max Agree with you. I've stopped using an adblocker, I pay for the press I read (which is a large part of my web consumption) and watch YouTube ads (even though I complain about it). Living in Europe I can generally disable cookies so I'm not concerned about privacy. I don't understand people who want a free *and* ad free web. I'm glad you started this thread but we are a minority.

Nick Silvestri Not to ruin the vibe by getting into politics on this mini-Twitter, I've always thought it was a weird take to "not trust" a political party. You might not agree with one (or both), but don't they pretty much always behave _exactly_ in the way you expect? I trust them, in the sense that I trust them to continue to uphold the same policies as they do now.
đŸĸ Keb my statement is a gross overgeneralization meant to express distrust towards the DNC and some of its more prominent members. there are some members of the Dems that I support and have supported in elections. Same with the Repubs. No they don't always behave how I expect, so I guess I just lack the same sense of foresight.
