🦿 Lucian Marin This is exactly what I want. Three months will be perfect on working on projects like Sublevel. But I don't think we will get free money. We still have to work on something.
👽 Paul Webb The jobs that computers can't take over yet are for designers and coders. Oh, and construction. People are going to have to learn new skills or get left behind.

Paul Khris I am a Londoner so i got little to say..just joking. Searching out the 'social media' out of curiosity right now. Not in my twenties any more.
Mark Dain So the only small social networks I know of are Sublevel, Ello ( ello.co ) and Gab ( gab.ai ). I was on Ello right after launch, it seemed to be inhabited by designers and had no tech community so I soon closed my account having nobody to talk to. I'd say it's worth checking out regardless. Gab is (currently?) full of people who's Twitter accounts were closed in the recent wave of banning pro-Trump accounts so it's a bit politically charged right now (like the whole fucking internet).

Mark Dain You're a web designer/developer who doesn't use a Mac? *eyes start twitching* *foaming coming out of mouth* In all seriousness, did they already have the Sketch file then they started? Perhaps it's a good idea to let them know right up front you can't accept Sketch files. Do you accept PSD?
Asko P. Everything that Adobe supports (doesn't really have to be Adobe, just has to run on Windows, too), I accept, and PSD's are still most of the industry, but apparently quite a few designers have stopped caring about what most of the world uses and just into their own preference not realizing that while the tech world uses Macs a ton, they also use Windows and Linux a ton.

Mark Dain I thought that happened after the iOS 6 Apple Maps scandal? Idk, he's done a lot of good too, like standing up for privacy & security
Martijn "he's done a lot of good too" -- definitely. Including basically running Apple for 15 years, making the supply chain profitable and running all operations during Jobs' sick leave. It is very likely he promoted Ive because he know very well that he himself is more business than visionary, thus bringing one of the lead designers picked by Jobs up sounds like a sound idea as well.

Alson Kaw The main problem designers and web developers face now is that anyone nowadays can create a design / website. But doing it right, is hard.
🦿 Lucian Marin I noticed this trend a few years ago. I was a pretty good web/ui designer for a few years. Then I decided to re-learn programming, built Sublevel and now I have a full-time job as a software engineer. I still think design is better than code, but it's hard to explain to someone why a design is better than other. With code it's easier because it does or doesn't do what the end user is asking.

🦿 Lucian Marin iOS 9 is full of bugs. I'm back to iOS 8. I really don't like the changes. They are trying to kill that beautiful flat design with some 3D stuff. Everything else is influenced by Android and Material Design. I thought Apple was "thinking different" even without Steve Jobs.
Martijn Ive moved to something different, right? So now designers can sneak in non-flat designs again. Someone should really revive the iOS HIG and tell Apple devs to stick to it.

Eric Despite it shrinking down to a more dinky size in recent years, carrying an inhaler is still a real chore. Is it possible to store compressed gas in a more pocket friendly way or has it got to be cylindrical?
🦿 Lucian Marin You can always redesign the enclosure of a cylindrical inhaler to match the design of a pocket friendly Lytro camera. But I guess pharma companies don't have any interest in hiring the best industrial designers.

🦿 Lucian Marin airplanemo.de is a rock band from New York that happens to be made entirely out of iOS designers. I like the name, it reminds me of Depeche Mode.

Martijn Adobe is helping Microsoft with their new browser (codename Sparta). So the two companies with the most critical security bugs are now working together?
Adam Douglas It was all going so well. Of all the companies, Microsoft picks the one despised by developers and designers alike for Adobe Flash and for extorting people on a monthly basis for design software that is now outclassed by $50-$100 apps. Who in Microsoft thought Adobe would be the people to see about a modern browser?
Dave Walk I had an idea once of an app that was fully customizable and "hackable" - people could create their own personalized world that made their experience unique. I guess it would be a social network b/c I don't know what else could get enough people to congregate around. It's funny because this is basically what Myspace was - although maybe it was too early or it just leads people to create ugly, slow pages.
🦿 Lucian Marin If you have time for it, I say you should give it a try. You can always impose some limitation to not end up like MySpace. Or you can have designers and developers build the parts and sell them.

Brendan Murty Another thought provoking post by Brad Frost: bradfrostweb.com/b... How important are job titles anymore?
Bas Poppink In my experience, digital creatives are T-shaped out if necessity. That applies to both creative developers and designers. You simply need to know at least the basics of graphic design, interaction and code to be able to come up with feasible and innovative ideas. So while this should be nothing new for the people doing the work, it could be an eye-opener for management...
