Miso wooow that's quite amazing actually
😏 Yt L. Thanks. I was surprised it worked as well as it did. I'm actually having more trouble separating male from female writers. I guess Trump may be more different from others than male writers are from female. (Or my model just needs more work)

Miso What are you current projects?
😏 Yt L. I recently setup rephrasor.com - an idea I had for competitive rephrasing. Now I'm working on a machine learning model to differentiate male from female writers (building on some success I had with a model to identify Donald Trump - link.medium.com/OS...

🤔 Dave There is an interesting project (axios.com) which tries to uphold some of the old ideals of journalism. Sadly it's very US centric. It would be nice if there was an european alternative to that.
😾 Oskar I somehow can't grab idea of axios. I know 'it's a thing', but can't understand it phenomena of it. It's newsletter service setup by some professional journalist which filters away noise from daily news and provides concrete rundown in given section? EU has always smaller market for those, people not willing to spend money online as in US. I see it as totally doable with good scraping, filtration and team of professional copywriters, but would it earn?

☕ David Antoine Man, it's been a few months I've not watched a single TV show or movie and I don't miss them either. I don't even remember the last TV show I watched. Lost in Space I think or maybe the Orville... I do remember the last movie, Avengers 3... I don't know, that's strange. Maybe it's the work, I'm tired. Or just a long lasting bad mood...
😀 Tom I still have the urge to watch something when I eat at home. I tried watching the first episode of season two of Orville, but I just couldn't stand it. I have tried a few other TV shows, but I can't stand them either. I have a new apartment and I'm "settling down." I bought several bookcases and have a couple hundred books I got out of storage plus a hundred or so I just bought from thrift stores. I want to work on my writing, I love reading, and writers read. When I have kids, I want them to read, not melt their mind with videos. Too many houses focus on the TV in their common space, mine won't.

☕ David Antoine Anyone watched Netflix "Annihilation"? Pretty good sci-fi movie... Not something you would probably see in theaters, that's at least a good thing with Netflix, where directors and screenwriters can experiment different things with more liberty. Sometimes it works, sometimes not... I've read somewhere they are about to produce 700 movies and TV shows for 2018 alone, impressive...
🦿 Lucian Marin I thought you were joking about the Netflix numbers, then I found the lists of upcoming TV shows (en.wikipedia.org/w...) and films (en.wikipedia.org/w...) on Wikipedia. I bet the guys working on these never sleep.
☕ David Antoine Tens of millions of iPhone (5, 5C) will apparently NOT receive the next 10.3.2 update, because... 32 bits is out. forbes.com/sites/g...
👽 Paul Webb Sigh...tech writers on sites like Forbes have a bad habit of making things doom and gloom. "Apple is no longer guaranteeing support throughout a full iOS generation. It can in fact be cut off at any time..." Um, duh. Any company can cut off support for anything at any time, just look at Google's software. Notably, the author doesn't mention AFS (Apple File System). It's not designed for 32-bit phones. APS is replacing HFS+. The blatant fear-mongering is annoying and shows off the laziness of said author.
😀 Tom Serious. I just mentioned HN because it's a place where a lot of smart people post. Otherwise I would have to hunt for the occasionaly-strewed-about advice on random blogs, etc. Why not? And if you were to look for advice, where would you go? (MetaFilter also pops into mind, I should really create an account there.)
Haaktu MetaFilter: yes! Depending on what I'd want mentoring on, I'd look for great writers/bloggers tackling my area of interest. Takes some work but it has worked for me quite well. Begs the question: what's the area of interest that you want mentoring on?

Adam Douglas It would be preferable if it was "[subject] explained" rather than using his irrelevant name in the title. Haven't seen his work so cannot comment on his competence.
Martijn His name is relevant only because he shares it with the TV show: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. HBO officially calls the different show segments "John Oliver on [subject]". They never use the word explained though, as, of course, it all comes from the show's writers' perspectives.
