Ganesh Khade What do you recommend, Vim, Sublime Text or VS Code for a newbie? I used to recommed VS Code, but everyone I recommend complained about, how slow it was than Sublime Text.
Stoyan Zhekov Depends on what is your goal. Vim is great if you are going to work on servers (system administration) - pretty much every UNIX derivate have a version on vi by default. For programming - VS Code - modern IDE, good support, frequent updates. Sublime is an editor, while VS code is an IDE, so comparison is not very fare. Atom... better stay away - wrapper around Chrome, making it looks like an editor...

Ben M. Are you *truly* scared of that? How has his Presidency truly affected your life personally?
Camp Fire Setting aside the impact it's had on the world, for me personally, his administration's incompetent response to the virus has had quite an impact. Lots of acquaintances laid off, lots of businesses I care about closed forever, lots of changes to every day life. The fact that I have empathy means I also care about the many people who have died or lost their jobs or are missing opportunities. The fact that I care about the United States means I care about the rise of fascism.

Mark Dain Can you elaborate on "the way things are going"? I've never been worried about the current administration. It seems nobody ever asks me how I feel, they just assert I'll be making a mistake if I move as they don't like the president. I can't change what my dream is, all I can do is either ignore/suppress it and feel unauthentic and miserable or fight to accomplish it and at the very least be glad I tried.
Sojourner The current administration seems to simply be continuing many of the policies of previous administrations. The trend seems to be more war and continuing economic policies. Looking at the history of other countries following similar trends leads me to believe you might much happier elsewhere in the coming years.

Sojourner I don't want to be a wet blanket, but the way things are going here, you may be very glad not to get in.

👽 Paul Webb Why was now the right time?
John Olinda I spearheaded an investigation of corruption in our school administration. When our parent organization decided not to do anything in spite of the evidence I knew it was time to get out. Simultaneously, the government started cracking down on private foreign-owned schools, meaning the school will probably shut down within a few months.

Haaktu Any unschoolers in the house?
😀 Tom Not me, but when I have children I will definitely do my research into alternative learning/teaching environments. I went to public school growing up and attened a private high school. While the private school was not too much better education-wise, it was a lot better in terms of my peers and administration which is probably what saved me growing up.

Dongsung Kim So apparently my credit card was still hooked up to my inactive App.net account which was renewed just now. I did send out a mail to get a refund or something, but it seems all the staffers have gone silent for over a year... :(
Martijn You might be able to cancel the payment with your credit card company if they do not respond. Although to be fair, if they are still charging cards they should have someone on staff for the (economic) administration...

Martijn I think the whole textbooks business is weird anyway. Where are the ebooks? Why do they cost over a 100 bucks per book? Still hoping for initiatives like Wikibooks to catch on for real, but I don't see it happening unless universities start paying their lecturers to more actively write their own material and putting it online.
😀 Tom I already have a bachelor of science degree, but I'm currently taking a few classes at a local community college. I dont remember the details, but the professors say they get in trouble from the administration if they don't use new textbooks from the company of choice. It's all about money, because that community college is top-heavy with high-paying administrative positions with little responsibility.
