🗿 Jonah Tim ferris style question: best purchase of around 100USD (or equivalent currency) or less? I'll start. kindle paperwhite, read it every day before bed.
🦇 Arr Non-IT: Good frying pan. Electronics: MX Mouse Anyhwere 3 was a nice upgrade since it has three pairing profiles and good mouse wheel haptics. Slightly out of the ordinary.

🦇 Arr Idea: Poll based social media. No texting between users in the public section. Just the possibility to doodle into events, find common interests in a "which do you prefer" style, (dating via yes/no?!), sharing links with up/downvote button, commenting on memes with funny🦘/not funny stickers. But without comments that could go toxic. Perhaps with "ask poll creator to add option" reply free text, though.

🏒 Lucian Marin Firefox brand is weak, it's associated with IE era and it's dropping market share like crazy. Mozilla brand got a nice refresh, it's trusted, it's associated with privacy and they got new good products that need to carry Mozilla brand. It should be Mozilla Suite for a new internet age: Mozilla Browser, Mozilla VPN, Mozilla Monitor and so on. This way the browser will be their main product, it will have internal focus and probably gain back the market share.
🦇 Arr Since 50 % of users don't know what a browser is, let's call it Mozilla Internet. The last rename of Firefox is now Firefox "Quantum" was cited on tech pages a lot, though.

🏒 Lucian Marin Where is Edge OS, Microsoft? Windows 11 is the new IE 11. Chrome OS is the future for enterprise and casual users.
🦇 Arr Well, Windows RT (especially on ARM) was kind of IE11-OS, with a very limited app selection.

👨‍💻 Matthieu V. How would you build an home server these days ? For self hosting purposes (Nextcloud, Photoprism, Plex and various apps like that) with maybe with around 8Gb to be futureproff
🦇 Arr I would overengineer it ridiciously and farm Chia, for now ;) Can serve as a file dump afterwards anyway

🏒 Lucian Marin SSL certificates for and unfeeder.com updated themselves on the first day of 2021. certbot renew --renew-hook "systemctl reload nginx" really works with sudo crontab -e.
🦇 Arr `sudo crontab -e` -> Why the elevated priviliege? Should the certbot not run as a non-admin user for better security?

Chetan Vashisht Couldn't agree more, we really don't need more speed. I'd happy with better customisation options.
🦇 Arr We need more speed. My iPhone SE 2020 scrolls more smoothly then my Intel Xeon, Nvidia 1080. Single core performance is only 10% better in the smartphone, but somehow the mobile system feels faster. A 15+ years old Mac with OS 9 is faster when typing input than an Intel MacBook Air with OS X was shown in recent benchmarks. "UI always scales to make any CPU underpowered" is a postulated law of computer engineering. Some people buying a MS Surface (7th gen) report bad perf, too

Mikael If care about weight, have you considered font-family:sans-serif? It's even lighter at 0 KB. ;)
🦇 Arr Doesn't that cause concrete pixel width to fluctuate based on the auto-selected font? Could thereby cause hard to spot layout errors.

🏀 Pr interesting, do you think the iphone 12 won't have touchID? I think the ipad air having touch ID means the new iphone will too.
🦇 Arr My work phone has android and a fingerprint sensor in the screen. Any old iPhones unlocks faster, though. I would hope for Apple's screen reader to be fast and reliable, no matter when it arrives. Often, new Apple products are at first worse than old ones.
