๐ŸŒš Nlggers Coffee seems to help. I try to remember the people who are counting on my support and remind myself that I'm very lucky to be in the position that I'm in. When I think about how far I've come in progressing towards my goals and how happy I would be 6 months or a year ago to be in the position I'm now in generally that is a big spike in motivation.
๐Ÿ—ฟ Simohamed Yes, in 3 months, I'll be a graduate. I would so happy to sever all ties with formal education.
Joseph Gilmore It's way better on the other side, or at least it has been for me. The only thing I really miss is my friends because we all moved away from each other
๐Ÿงจ Stephen Coley Lie my head on my desk
๐Ÿคฌ Foobar A lot of times my motivation revolves around curiosity. So the question I always ask myself is why am I not curious anymore on what I am working on?
Prince try to asses why i am unmotivated. usually it's because i'm trying to do something i only think i care about, rather than something i truly care about. if i absolutely need to do the thing im unmotivated to do, i try to find if there's a way i can satisfy the need in a way that is interesting
๐Ÿ—ฟ Simohamed The problem is that I'm unmotivated to study for (graduation) exams for a major I no longer care about. I was thinking of taking a day or two off and truly unwind. Not sure if that would actually help.
๐Ÿ˜ Yt L. What major are you uninterested in? I had a giant surge of negative motivation near graduation too.
๐Ÿ—ฟ Simohamed Linguistics. It's not the major itself, but rather the department's approach. Very dry and all you do is memorize things. I took a Teaching Company Great Course on linguistics which kept me going for another year (that was last year.) The department is full of shit that my End of Study research was in Film Studies because some professors had fewer students than others.
๐Ÿ˜ Yt L. That seems like an interesting major. What do you hope to do with it after graduation? Also, best advice may just be to push through, like the end of a long race, dig deep and bear it.
๐Ÿ—ฟ Simohamed I'm not going to do anything with it. My focus has shifted to programming. But, I'm better off with a BA than not, so bearing it is the way forward. I'm debating whether I should apply for a BA in Computer Science and take it easy. Are you a philosophy major?
๐Ÿ˜ Yt L. I did major in philosophy! (Although a little while ago). I actually held philosophy in very low regard while I was in college and felt bad about studying it. In the years after though I've felt better and better about it. Hard to say exactly why, but I don't regret it and often fondly recall it.
๐Ÿคฌ Foobar What made you initially interested in the major?
๐Ÿ—ฟ Simohamed My path wasn't that clear cut, so I can't really give a straight answer. Whatever it was, I now think very little of higher education (as I know it) and have a vested interest in self-teaching and programming. So, twice a year in exams season, I get stuck between wanting to write code and having to study the most archaic aspects of my major (we're still being taught the sapir-whorf hypothesis as a valid thing.)
๐Ÿคฌ Foobar I'm curious to hear your opinions of higher education. Why do you think very little of it?
๐Ÿ‘พ Marty Listen to Jocko Willink and get motivated lol
๐Ÿ—ฟ Simohamed I might just do that haha
๐Ÿ‘พ Marty Check out both his "Good" and "Lies" videos on Youtube. Pretty much all I need to get going lol
๐Ÿง‰ Martin That guy is pretty insane (in the good way).
