Eddie_lomax Any suggestions on how to start cobbling together a Smart Home(tm)? I have a Nest, and want to get a front door lock, some lights, and maybe Alexa or Google Home, but am admittedly a little creeped out by the constant listening from Amazon or Google.
Kodo I got google mesh wifi it is supposed to integrate directly with smart home stuff in the future

☕ David Antoine Yes, saw S01, I'm watching S02 (mid-season). I like it a lot though I think Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009) is better. It's well done and I like the fact that it stays around the solar system, with a more "grounded" political intrigue... I didn't read the books. There is also Dark Matter, it's nice as well, it reminds me a little bit of Firefly. Those are my three favorite in space Sci-Fi TV shows... For now.
Kodo I've seen every episode of all the above. what is wrong with me....

Bugabinga I did the same. Then I realised the only game I like is StarCraft 2. No sc2 on Linux. FML.
Kodo DON'T BUY STARCRAFT 2 UNTIL THEY PORT TO LINUX That's my for you :P

Etc It's fun to use bright yellow $10 earmuffs instead of something like bose - works better & looks awesome
Kodo wireless beats earbuds all the way. I even watch TV with them on the couch heh

Randoming I have one Windows 10 machine and it's literally nothing more than a Steam client but I think this might be enough to push me to tolerate Steam on Linux and try support the devs porting to Linux. I'm not too worried about Microsoft knowing my crappy Dirt Rally times and more to do with not supporting/tolerating such a clear breach of privacy. I mean, remote code execution... theregister.co.uk/...
Kodo I use steam 100% on linux now and buy every linux game i can get my hands on and admonish publishers for not releasing on linux. Join the fight :P

😀 Tom Always submit (reasonable) feedback; you never know. I submitted a feature request to Google's Authenticator app, and it was implemented in the following update. I also submitted a feature request for my bank's app when I was on the phone with them, and they forwarded the reqest and it too was added to the app.

Mark Dain Then harass, blackmail, and threaten your friends to signup. Ask not what Sublevel does for you, but what you can do for Sublevel.
Kodo No i mean I wish it went back further than just a few results. that has nothing to do with more people. in fact more people would make that problem worse

Etc So far finding Phoenix substantially more manageable than rails but still a bit automagic
Kodo for me the biggest win was performance. rails is slow AF. phoenix is magic but if you're going to be using a railsy type thing it kinda comes with the territory

Bugabinga How much effort do other IT professionals spend on their own home network infrastructure? As a developer, I roughly know what *should* be done, but find it mostly overwhelming in terms of time and effort.
Kodo I have google mesh wifi. It's all controlled by an app and auto configures itself for best performance.

👽 Paul Webb Haha! That would be neat.
Kodo I think one of the distinguishing features of this site is lack of such 'echo chamber' tools

Martijn I never understood why ActivityStreams would be good for websites to have, when AS isn't conveyed in HTML. I write a lot of the HTML on my blog by hand (so I can fuss over every little semantic detail of a blockquote) and it is just way easier to throw in some microformats that make the feed parsable then to make sure some secondary JSON/ATOM format comes into existence.
Kodo I still think xml is better than json for documents
