Etc It's fun to use bright yellow $10 earmuffs instead of something like bose - works better & looks awesome
😀 Tom I used to use earbuds and industrial earmuffs over them. Then I installed some headphone speakers in my earmuffs and wired them to a headphone jack. That worked pretty well, and I used it at work (poked a hole in my pocket for the wire and ran it inside my coveralls out the colar to my earmuffs). Then I used it in a very wet environment and killed it :-(. Maybe I should remake them, this time with Bluetooth.
Kodo wireless beats earbuds all the way. I even watch TV with them on the couch heh

Mark Dain Oh I've always found Elixir/Erlang hard to learn. What are you learning with/from? Perhaps there's hard to find tutorials
Etc I did some erlang a while ago so it's pretty familiar - never had a project for it though!

Etc So far finding Phoenix substantially more manageable than rails but still a bit automagic

Kodo for me the biggest win was performance. rails is slow AF. phoenix is magic but if you're going to be using a railsy type thing it kinda comes with the territory

Kodo "if it always keeps type information to at run time to do it". Not sure what you mean there
Etc Sorry I didn't ask that clearly - my guess is that crystal has do to do something like (this)[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tagged_union] for sum types?

Kodo elixir is fun. I went from elixir to crystal because I didn't want to always have to carry a VM around with me. crystal is another ruby syntax inspired language but it compiles to binary
Etc I spent a little bit of time with crystal a year ago! Yeah I've avoided erlang/elixir for a while because none of the tasks needed its nice concurrency. I was always curious about crystal's implicit sum types - do you know if it always keeps type information to at run time to do it, kind of like go does?

Etc Decided I wanted to make a scalable web app - finally have a chance to learn elixir!

🦿 Lucian Marin Profile pictures are JPEGs at 240x240px, 85% quality, progressive with no chroma subsampling. Yes, they are pretty big for simple avatars but they are cached by your browser. Almost 1.75x bigger on average than normal JPEG settings of 75% quality and strong chroma subsampling. I guess quality matters too, not just speed.
Etc That's a good point! On reloading sublevel.net/current it's instant :D

Etc Also funny that the slowest thing that loads is people's profile pictures
