😀 Tom There's a thread on HN about how everone talks about how assembling a PC is so difficult, but I've never had a problem. Whether it's making sure I buy compatible components or putting them together. Maybe I have "The Knack" for PC building?

Simon Janes Standards in PC components have gone a long way to making successful builds more successful. My biggest problem is I keep old hardware around a long time and the memory standards keep changing. It is getting harder to upgrade the old stuff for old time's sake.

🦿 Lucian Marin Do you use thermal paste for the CPU? I find that to be the most anxious thing in PC building. What if I melt the most expensive part?!

😀 Tom Of course! I bought some Arctic Silver Arcticlean to remove the OEM stuff, and then I used Arctic Silver 5. My only concern was if my "pea" of paste was the right amount, but after joining the CPU with the heatsink, I was satisfied and didn't feel the need to redo it. Thermals looked good when it booted up. Since my rig was so expensive, I also bought and used for the first time, an Anti-Static Wrist Strap. I also wore gloves to prevent any grease from my skin getting on the components. Not sure if the gloves and wrist strap canceled out. Also, the CPU (AMD Ryzen 7 1800X) was not the most expensive part :-)
