💬 Subreply Introducing "live" avatars. Everyone will notice your new selfie instantly. This change will make Sublevel appear more alive.

Fiatjaf Do you have plans to support webmentions and other indieweb features? indiewebcamp.com/w...
Martijn I am not sure if enough links are posted on Sublevel for this to make sense. But it would be cool. I am running a webmention end-point on my site for several weeks now and am hoping more people pick up on the IndieWeb technologies!
Fiatjaf I was thinking more about accepting incoming webmentions, so people could answer to Sublevel threads from their sites. does that make sense?
🏒 Lucian Marin I also added "live" statistics to page. This will make sure there's plenty of data even for scientists.
Martijn Could you add medians beside the averages? I have found averages only paint half a picture during my statistics courses. I expect the median for entries per member to be lower than the average, for instance.
Dorcas So the cache version of avatars is gone?
💬 Subreply Now they are working like you're expecting them to work.
Dorcas I'm sorry if I was being nosy that time. It was meant to be an inquiry.
Nkrs Oddly, I can't see your avatar any more.
Dorcas But I on my phone browser, I can see mine, and yours too.
Nkrs Works now, guess it was a temporary thing. (opening the image directly was 404)
Mark Dain What did you end up going for? I can't see as I'm on my phone. I'd probably have taken the SHA-1 and store that as the filename
Martijn {userid}-{year}{month}{day}-{hour}{minute}{second}-{6digits}, not sure where the last 6 digits are coming from though.
🏒 Lucian Marin The last 6 digits are the microseconds of the date.
Martijn That seems like overkill. I don't think it is even possible to upload graphics that fast unless I would be in the actual data centre. On the other hand, it really doesn't matter much what you use as long as it busts the long cache times
🏒 Lucian Marin Since Sublevel is real fast, someone can upload two or more pictures in one second.
Martijn I thought this was like Apple's live photos for a moment, and was waiting for your avatar to move. Then I realised it is just the cache busting implementation from #17805 going live.
Mark Dain Oh I'm gutted that doesn't point to that post ID. I'm surprised there's been 17k posts! That's really cool
Martijn I am hoping that link (and the following one) will automatically resolve when gets to it, as described in #17754
🏒 Lucian Marin I got this working nicely! I call it the hashref, similar to a hashtag. cc:
Martijn And there was much rejoicing Thanks for the continued work on making better!
Dorcas Thanks :)
