Almost all Macs are listed as "Don't Buy" as they're expecting updates soon: buyersguide.macrum... . I have both an old MacBook Air and the most recent MacBook Pro Retina, they are quality machines. Other than the lack of Ethernet, I've never had an issue with either machine. There's a rumor going around that Apple is asking if customers use the headphone port on their laptops but I've never been asked, so I don't know. I'd say wait and see, you might be able to pickup a fairly new MacBook Pro for cheap if Apple really does water down the newest model.

This is frustrating. Term is starting very soon and I'd love to get a decent MacBook but all this possible-release nonsense is really leaving me in the lurch.

i have to add a few things. One --> I've owned to many computers, and sold them, fixed them, traded them, so on... I ran a little mac / iPhone business until i was robbed when driving to detroit to meet (i know i know / did meetup's a million times). detroit, night no.. however in my inc case bag was everything from personal laptop, wallet, phones, and laptop being sold. Point is after incident i ended up with a MacBook air late 2010 model and sadly I've been using it ever since. ouch... cannot even begin to explain how limited this thing is, customized to explode at paces i need. code --> terminal --> optimal until build phase.
