Mark Dain I just found out there's an Apache server running on my Mac. Apache isn't listed in "ps", "apachectl -k stop" does nothing. The page just shows "It works!" and nothing else.

🏒 Lucian Marin To stop it you can do this: sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.apache.httpd.plist

Mark Dain Thanks that did it! Will Apache come back if I reboot?

Nkrs Maybe it's listed as httpd?

Mark Dain That's a great idea, I'll check later today

Martijn That seems the key! I definitely get results for `ps -ax | grep httpd`

😀 Tom Does it come with the Mac OS? Was it installed by some software you installed? Worst case scenario, your computer was compromised and is hosting illegal content for others?

Mark Dain Apache does come with OS X and there's a possibility of it being activated as I did run OS X Server a few years ago. A compromise is a bit unlikely but I will check however I can. Worst case I ask my ISP to drop incoming port 80 at the exchange point. I liked hosting my site at home (nginx) but did recently stop. I suppose Apache sprung at the first chance to listen on *:80 now that nginx is gone.
