Mark Dain Hey! It's great to have you back! How have you been?
Martijn We missed you too!
Martijn "[21:39:24] : BOOBS" was the first thing my eyes registered when I logged into IRC. Hashtag-out-of-context-quotes.
Khll haha too bad I missed it.

Mark Dain What's everyone doing this weekend?
Khll Studying. sigh

😀 Tom Studying. Then one week of practice problems at work/academy, then final evaluations the following Monday and Tuesday.
Khll What do you study?

😀 Tom I don't know about extremely clever, but it is pretty good. Is there something else I'm missing besides it being a depiction of the Eiffel Tower?

John Olinda The choices for president are just depressing. This is just one example of the caliber of the politicians we are faced with selecting from: internet2016.net/b...
Khll This one certainly takes the cake. '"I sure as hell don't want to let people that want to kill us and kill our nation use our Internet," Trump said in December.'

John Olinda Hoping it can run for president by 2020.
Adam Douglas Nothing strange about it. the Shuffle is the only iPod that remains useful in spite of the smartphone revolution. I think the Shuffle will only become redundant when smartphone battery lives become inexhaustible.
Khll You're right. Most people (including everyone I know) seem to be put off by the lack of screen and the limited capacity. I think the absurd (in a good sense) battery life is worth it.

John Olinda Been messing around with my old iPod Touch 4th Generation. It's amazing what a shock it is to go back to the old UI.
Khll I strangely find the iPod Shuffle to be the best of iPods.

Mark Dain I looked up the specs for Oculus; they recommend 8GB RAM and an AMD R9 290. I have 16 GB RAM and two R9's in CrossFire ;) so I'm good for hardware (every single spec I have double or more). As for monitor, I was under the impression you didn't need one? The Oculus IS the monitor? I've heard it does add quite a bit to some games as they feel so realistic. I've been getting used to playing first person (I usually hate it) in anticipation for switching to Rift. Games I can see good with Rift; Skyrim, GTA, Watch Dogs, Any Horror Game, etc...
Khll I tried the Oculus in a couple of events here in Tunisia and I didn't see myself using it regularly because I found it gimmicky. Watching the EVE: Valkyrie game trailer however changed my mind. youtube.com/watch?...

Martijn I feel dirty for using Bootstrap to whip up a quick website for a local restaurant to show their menu ...
Khll Still better than using Wordpress.

Martijn How much AI was it versus manmade algorithms? Did they train the computer to play? I haven't really read about it yet, but too often with these things the training was skipped and replaced by direct human input which means the AI is still "basic" compared to scifi-esque robot AI.
Khll Go has an enormous search space (The maximum number of legal positions in chess is in the order of 10^47, that of Go is 10^127) so traditional man-made algorithms, as you put it, are ineffective. They used deep neural networks which were trained by learning from human expert games and games of self-play. Although we are still far away from scifi-esque robot AI, this milestone was thought to be a decade away. We never know.

Khll In light of Google's AI beating the European champion in Go, what are your thoughts on Artificial Intelligence?

Martijn You mean Kerbal Space Program? I looked into that, but it feels a little gimmicky to me. If you are into engineering and space, I can totally see how you sink many hours into it though.
Khll You are right. It appeals the most to people with those interests. Relevant xkcd: xkcd.com/1356
