Martijn Do you really need two fields to ask for a name? w3.org/Internation...

Asko P. Yes, in that I need to know what is the first and the last name.

Martijn What if I only have one? Is "last" my family name or the name that is written last? Some more questions like that are put forward in the article I linked. I am a stickler for this as I have an easy, ASCII writable, European name and software still messes up capitalisation when they make me put my family name in a separate field.

Mark Dain Is it "Mr Van der Ven"? or "Mr van der Ven"?

Martijn The second. Although try convincing software of that. I also expect my name to be sorted under "Ven", ignoring the "van der". Wikipedia will inform you on collation and capitalisation: en.wikipedia.org/w...

Mark Dain Interesting... Thanks for the link, I can see how a lot of software would get this wrong, especially as it differs by region (Belgium sorts under Van but the Netherlands doesn't?). And then it's suppose to be Ven, Martijn van der? Christ this is complicated. It's times like this I think the W3C is so right; just have a field for name and let the user sort it out!
