Isn't it just Debian, but for people who want to post screenshots of their desktop backgrounds with minimum effort? Ubuntu with street-cred? ElementaryOS looks okay as an alternative. I've always stuck with Slackware because it's what I started with and I don't care what it looks like. dwm and done.

Don't know about the screeshotting or street credit, I just liked it because it ran well on my crappy old computer and came configured close to the way I wanted without spending tons of time tweaking.

Vanilla Debian isn't like #! though... I don't see where existing users are meant to migrate too.

Exactly :( #! had it just right, and I don't envision myself just seamlessly transitioning to Debian. It sounds like the users are starting up a community-maintained version, but either way it's the end of a great project.
