Nkrs Found mistakes in a PDF I was reading for my paper, but it's just that symbols in equations got eaten by whichever print-to-PDF program was used when the original document was saved to PDF from Word 2007. Welp.

🧡 Lucian Marin You should find a PostScript program and look at the PDF source. I bet there are still traces of the equation. Perhaps it can't be rendered correctly.
Nkrs Equations are OLE objects in Word, with very good integration. It appears that they get rasterized into images when they're printed to PDF, unlike TeX which stores them as text, so no luck getting them out.
Martijn Sooo, not written in LaTeX then?
Nkrs It uses the default Word 2007 template: Calibri, Cambria, shades of light blue. It's a paper that someone at my uni wrote in 2011 and I'm referencing it, or at least trying to reference it. LaTeX is used very rarely in my department, probably because it's stupid hard to get stuff working, especially on Windows. In Word you get all of the useful stuff (fonts, colours, graphics, equations, tables, &c) out of the box and easily available. In LaTeX all of that is in separate packages, and you have to read every package's docs to see which commands you need and with which arguments. That said, once you learn it, the results can be good.
