☕ David Antoine Apparently, the reason for limiting the new MacBook Pro 2016 to a maximum of 16 GB of RAM is because the Skylake architecture does not support low power DDR4 and that would draw to much from the battery, especially considering that it is much smaller than before on the new MP Pro... 9to5mac.com/2016/1... So, they kept LPDDR3 for power consumption reasons instead of using desktop grade DDR4 to allow 32 GB of RAM... Makes sense ? Or is it a obsolescence move from Apple ?
Mark Dain 16 GB is a decent amount of memory for most tasks but I've heard it can fall short when you're editing video, particularly 4K. I think Intel is partly to blame here too: they announced Kaby Lake only 2 months before the new MacBook Pros we're announced so they had probably already finished designing it with Skylake and had to carry on with that. It does mean next year Apple could make an updated build with Kaby Lake and LPDDR4. Apple has always been obsessed with thin and that means smaller batteries so I'm all for LP RAM if it'll help.

☕ David Antoine 2 months seems a bit short yes. If I remember correctly, Apple used to secure first batches of new Intel processors exclusively for their different Mac refresh... As they have apparently slowed down on the Mac hardware "evolution" side, Intel is maybe no more willing to adapt their production dead lines for Apple, if they have ever done that, I'm not sure. So, wait and see for Kaby Lake and LPDDR4...
