I'm not sure I've felt at home anywhere for a long time (like a decade). Even if I bought the house I grew up in as a child, I would feel alien in the neighborhood now. I've felt comfortable in a few places I've lived (ship I worked on, apartment I rented). Sometimes I feel like just leaving all my dreams of greatness, friends, and family to move to the middle of nowhere and get a job at a place that I love that only pays just enough. I just started a great career though (Air Traffic Control) and moved to a new area. Sometimes I think life's greatest tragedy is growing up: trading one freedom for a different kind of freedom.

Thank you for writing this. I've never felt at home either and it's good to know I'm not the only one thinking of leaving my cushy, rich job for something that makes me genuinely happier. Good luck with Air Traffic Control, that seems like such a thankless, but important job! Pilots would be lost without you.
