Martijn I have had to little practice with DVDs that I might just have burned the DVD in HFS+, rendering Windows computers unable to read it. Oops.
Mark Dain Is that possible? I thought DVD had its own file system format?
Martijn There is UDF and the older ISO 9660. But it looks like a data DVD burned through Finder will be in HFS+, because all those old Hodgman and Long ads about how Mac is compatible with everything is a lie.

Mark Dain Oh that's a real issue then. I burned some DVDs some time ago containing backup copies of my company's master PGP key. I'll have to recall one of them and check the filesystem.

Martijn Hmm. Apple might be using some arcane multiple format or finder is lying. I was able to open my data DVD on an ancient Windows XP box just now. If you are storing backups like that I would definitely verify the data on a secondary machine though.
