Nkrs Feels like all of the needless junk we shaved off from pages with XHTML-HTML5 transition is slowly coming back in shape of dozens of meta tags and resource links.
Martijn This is probably where I plug microformats
Nkrs Microformats are alright for what they provide and we already use them in a couple of places, but that's not my point. I was asked to make the website shareable on social networks and more mobile friendly. The site is already responsive, so some of it is already covered. I read up on OpenGraph meta tags, added them to a test page, and it worked alright, but then I find out Twitter has its own prefix, so that's even more tags. I read up on mobile icons, and there's a dozen of different sizes. I don't think this functionality that's tangential to the site's contents an purpose is worth so many bytes.

Martijn Twitter will actually parse OpenGraph when their own tags are missing. So you can spare some work there. At least they used to do that.
Nkrs Looks like they do; tags with their prefix are needed for specific data relevant only to Twitter (e.g. the @ username to attribute the page to).
