Agreed. There are many good ones that are freely available, like Charis, EB Garamond, and Junicode. I tend to type all of my documents in Cyrillic so the list is a bit narrower. Thankfully, our Ministry of Culture sponsors a program where professors and students from the Academy of Applied Arts make series of really nice and functional typefaces that everyone can use for free, and they all come with both Latin and Cyrillic sets.
