Wgibbons Hi Joe. I've only just joined. I had never heard of Sublevel until I listened to Doug's latest podcast today. I have the same question as you.
🙄 Doug Belshaw Welcome! It's just a space without that many people in it. I kind of thought we could take it over as a new place for edu-conversation? ;)
Wgibbons That sounds great. We've been in touch via email over the summer, and I was at the CELT conference when you spoke in Galway last June. I'm quietly piloting badges at the moment, never used them until now. I'm writing my proposal for my doctorate at the moment, on the subject of designing a pathway using badges.
🙄 Doug Belshaw Excellent! Well if you need a soundboard, you've got my email address. :)
Wgibbons Thanks. Right now I'm just trying to make sure that Moodle can issue badges the way I want. I plan to have 4 badges per assignment, ranging from 1-star to 4-star representing a "D" to "A" grade. It's doable, but Moodle doesn't make it as slick or as easy as I'd like. Any consensus on issuing badges to a failing grade? I was planning on issuing the results as letters as well as badges, with a 35-40% being "MF" for marginal fail, and <35 as "F". I'm leaning towards only issuing the grade letter to non-passing students and the passing ones get the badges as well as the letter.
🙄 Doug Belshaw So you've got to remember that the learner is in control at all times - that's one of the 'disruptive' things about badges. Are they likely to accept a 'fail' badge? No, probably not. But they probably *would* accept a 'participated in the course' badge - which everyone else would be issued as well.
🙄 Doug Belshaw Hi Joe, and welcome! I'm finding Twitter less useful for conversations these days...
Vcassar me too. Have essentially stopped using Twitter because of the noise
🙄 Doug Belshaw It's just too broadcast-y (and I have to be careful that what I say makes sense out of context, because people often quote you - which is difficult to do in 140 characters!)
🏒 Lucian Marin That's not the point. The point is Sublevel is different. If those differences matter to you then you will stick around.
