I want to create a chat based app that works exactly like IRC. Slack, but public. Reddit, but no threads. Sublevel, but not social. Convore was the closest thing to this, but I'm not sure why they give up.

I've been waiting for months to get a burger at a particular resturant. Today I finally had an excuse to go. After I placed my order and waited a bit, I found out the kitchen had a fire while making my order and the kitchen was closed for the rest of the evening :-( Here's to waiting another month or so :-/

I'm conflicted. When I move back to Texas soon, I want to devote time to work on personal projects, but I also want to get involved with volunteering (Scouts). I feel like I can only choose one if I really want to dedicate myself to it. This is going to be on top of work which already has a hectic schedule.

Is there a way you could (realistically) cut back on work?
🤔 John
AFAIK you're the only one of us who's actually created a social network! I've been kicking around some high level ideas in terms of network interaction, but I'm not interested (or capable if I'm honest) of building my own. I'm mostly curious if the people here, who lean more technical than my Twitter feed, are thinking about the same kinds of limitations in existing social nets.

I wish I didn't delete it from App Store in the first place. I didn't know it will be almost impossible to get it back. But there's a chance you can get it back using Purchased option from App Store.

Why did you delete it? Focusing more on web? Don't want to deal with walled gardens anymore?

So, there's a lot of talk on here about social networks, especially since sub level is an experimental social network with a modest community of quality users. I know some of you have talked about or are working on your own network. I agree that existing networks have evolved in ways I'm not happy with. What can we do differently? What could separate your network (or the next alternative network) from the existing ones? What problems are they and aren't they solving?
👽 Paul Webb
Haha, I agree with Tom but I can share some high-level ideas. The main thing is changing the incentive for network operators. Currently, advertising rules all so I'm taking that away with Socii. Being user-funded, with a marketplace isn't going to make me super successful or cash positive anytime soon and I'm okay with that.

Every product or service sees changes, but the core of Sublevel remained the same. I won't introduce any new product features, just polish how it works today.
👽 Paul Webb
Of course changes happen but to the extent Sublevel changed in a month span? I haven't seen that since Classface.
🦿 Lucian Marin
I'm not giving up on Sublevel even if I'm the only user. I think it's gonna be great since web tech will evolve and I'll adopt everything that works. Let's see if I can bring editing...

Comment on reddit: "Most people don't want to have a million dollars. Most people want to spend a million dollars. That's why most people will never have a million dollars."

#26801 Unfortunately, my main browser (Firefox) doesn't support webp so I do see some loading. I just had an idea to have a lil' gradient animation...that could work!

I haven't been super active on social media for the past month and that's because of the work I'm doing on my own. To manage images, I've created a service that converts jpg/png to webp. Only Chrome supports it natively but I have a hacky plugin that replaces webp with base64'd data in other browsers.
