Hope no one sits next to you
For me, it would be "across you." I will not focus if a stranger is in my field of view.
I think there's a good chance. But I do think it needs a little bit more work, especially when it comes to navigation. I wish it was open source so I could contribute to it.
Suggest songs to chill to. No wrong answers.
Song? Aphex Twin's Rhubarb youtube.com/watch?.... Albums? Birth of a New Day by 2814, In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country by Boards of Canada, Ambient 1/Music For Airports by Brian Eno, GAS by Pop, Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Ros. Feel free to recommend me back.
Someone posted this a couple hours ago: I hate the news. aaronsw.com/weblog...
One must read the lengthy rebuttal in the comments as well.
It's a good essay, and I very much enjoy and agree with his point about the news being a "closed loop" that doesn't really require my involvement. Thanks for sharing.
Except when it does. I.e. local news.
Reading the news often makes me frustrated and angry, and I really can't do anything about what the news is reporting on. Considering giving it up entirely and purposefully avoiding the news.
For this reason and a bit more, I really want to live in a country where there is little political angst/polarization and distrust of governmental institutions. I want to live in the most politically boring, politically stable place.
Just text is amazing, it would be cool if people can look for communities or stuff like that
For now, It's fairly homogeneous, and the whole thing is a community. You can search subreply.com/search keywords (e.g. film) to find discussions (about films). And that's about it.
That seems like an interesting major. What do you hope to do with it after graduation? Also, best advice may just be to push through, like the end of a long race, dig deep and bear it.
I'm not going to do anything with it. My focus has shifted to programming. But, I'm better off with a BA than not, so bearing it is the way forward. I'm debating whether I should apply for a BA in Computer Science and take it easy. Are you a philosophy major?
This is a fantastic speech and I recommend anyone with available time to listen to it. youtu.be/8CrOL-ydFMI
That speech is very special. Not only for its content but for what it tries to do. It's always hard to say matter-of-fact things without someone (you yourself, probably) writing it off as a platitude. These truisms or wholesome attitudes need so much justification that isn't based on logicality but narrative and storytelling to make someone sympathize with your experience, which David nails perfectly.
Coffee seems to help. I try to remember the people who are counting on my support and remind myself that I'm very lucky to be in the position that I'm in. When I think about how far I've come in progressing towards my goals and how happy I would be 6 months or a year ago to be in the position I'm now in generally that is a big spike in motivation.
Yes, in 3 months, I'll be a graduate. I would so happy to sever all ties with formal education.
What major are you uninterested in? I had a giant surge of negative motivation near graduation too.
Linguistics. It's not the major itself, but rather the department's approach. Very dry and all you do is memorize things. I took a Teaching Company Great Course on linguistics which kept me going for another year (that was last year.) The department is full of shit that my End of Study research was in Film Studies because some professors had fewer students than others.
What made you initially interested in the major?
My path wasn't that clear cut, so I can't really give a straight answer. Whatever it was, I now think very little of higher education (as I know it) and have a vested interest in self-teaching and programming. So, twice a year in exams season, I get stuck between wanting to write code and having to study the most archaic aspects of my major (we're still being taught the sapir-whorf hypothesis as a valid thing.)
Follow up question: is fake news as much of a problem as people seem to think?
In my country, It's sensational news that are the real threat. I wish I could explain, but bums are given huge amounts of airtime and national attention for weeks on end. Or, outright silly news. A man loves his goat and vows not to slaughter it comes Al-Eid (religious holiday) is apparently news. And TikTok has not been kind to us at all.
try to asses why i am unmotivated. usually it's because i'm trying to do something i only think i care about, rather than something i truly care about. if i absolutely need to do the thing im unmotivated to do, i try to find if there's a way i can satisfy the need in a way that is interesting
The problem is that I'm unmotivated to study for (graduation) exams for a major I no longer care about. I was thinking of taking a day or two off and truly unwind. Not sure if that would actually help.
Listen to Jocko Willink and get motivated lol
Hello friends I might be super duper dumb for not already figuring this out but how do you toggle dark mode?
You have to turn dark mode in your OS. In Devtools (chrome), press CTRL+SHIFT+P and enable dark color scheme and the site will comply. It won't persist, though.
