Miso What will the web be like in 5 years?

🗨️ Fui I'm terrible at futurology, but here goes. With the pandemic stretching longer than initially wished for, more and more social activities become an online only thing. So the web will increasingly be the social meeting point, with whole economies springing forth from that. However, instead of one web, we will witness it breakdown in many smaller regional webs, as the rise in authoritarianism will lead in the increase of control on the flow of information.

Miso That's a very interesting take. So it would be smaller, but potentially more "controlled" web, in that example, right? I hope we don't come to that, it's a little scary, but very possible.

🧿 Andrea I think the real difference will be in the hardware we consume it through - glasses instead of phones, and vr instead of PCs - 5 years might be early, but it's gonna happen

Zero Edge im kinda looking forward to advanced ar glasses more than vr... a hud just seems so useful plus you could "skin" your world

Nick Silvestri I'm guessing it'll be mostly the same, from an end-user perspective. Since 2015 has the internet really changed all that much? It's just going to be more and more algorithmically tuned to maximize view time.

👨‍💻 Matthieu V. This is something we can't predict I think, trends born and die so quickly now. I hope there will be more consciousness about personal data with the need to own them and more decentralization, people getting more on alternative networks/app like here or midnight.pub ()

Miso I'm hoping other protocols like gopher or gemini will gain some traction as well

💻 Kernel I wish I knew enough about the internet to provide an authentic answer. Hope it will be better than it was 5 years ago.
