I've basically never used emoticons or emoji and I don't really get all of the fuss about them.

They sort of did, but I've a few friends who can't use them (old devices) and so the old emoticons remain. What I don't like is the jarring *custom* emotes some services use, Skype's attempt of emojis are just terrible, ugly and out right bad.

Skype is the worst messaging app, except for their stable audio/video communication. Somehow I'm glad we got rid of custom gifs for emoticons from online forums and such.

Skype's emoji are the single most compelling reason to kill that app with fire. Just an abomination.
