🙂 Roy Threads has been making waves online. Yet another Twitter alternative on the long list of alternatives. Apparently, users can't delete their Threads account without nuking Instagram as well. i wonder if they've heard of Pixelfed
🦿 Lucian Marin Meta and Twitter charge users around $12 per month, not year and still serving you ads. That's insane. Everyone should move to Mastodon and Subreply.
👽 Paul Webb Does Subreply have image/video support?
🤚🏻 Vivek Lucian, you need to market Subreply well because I think it has the potential to be a good alternative to Twitter.
😀 Tom I just use Subreply on my phone, and the user interface is more confusing that Twitter's. Subreply could have had a chance if Lucian changed it a while back when it was brought up by several users, but Lucian liked the way it was. I am curious if Subreply could scale though. I think the ship has sailed to Mastadon instances. At this point, Subreply would have to do something that Mastadon does not deliver on, that people want.

🧿 Dav Bell Love the emoji thing - but what happens when > # emojis? Can we pay $8 per month to have the exclusive right to an emoji?

🚌 Carl My account's still here, the grass is green, Elon bought twitter. Now I don't know what to feel about the last one but I just wish everything's for the better there. He should've realized that troll farms can easily purchase his new $8 Twitter Blue idea to make their replies more impactful lol
🦿 Lucian Marin Elon will lose all his wealth on Twitter. He is playing angry birds with his users.

🦇 Arr Idea: Poll based social media. No texting between users in the public section. Just the possibility to doodle into events, find common interests in a "which do you prefer" style, (dating via yes/no?!), sharing links with up/downvote button, commenting on memes with funny🦘/not funny stickers. But without comments that could go toxic. Perhaps with "ask poll creator to add option" reply free text, though.

🦿 Lucian Marin Firefox brand is weak, it's associated with IE era and it's dropping market share like crazy. Mozilla brand got a nice refresh, it's trusted, it's associated with privacy and they got new good products that need to carry Mozilla brand. It should be Mozilla Suite for a new internet age: Mozilla Browser, Mozilla VPN, Mozilla Monitor and so on. This way the browser will be their main product, it will have internal focus and probably gain back the market share.
🦇 Arr Since 50 % of users don't know what a browser is, let's call it Mozilla Internet. The last rename of Firefox is now Firefox "Quantum" was cited on tech pages a lot, though.

🦿 Lucian Marin Should I believe GoAccess when it says that Subreply gets ~1500 daily unique visitors?
☕ David Antoine How many total accounts ? 3000 ? That would be half of the users visiting daily, pretty good I guess...

🦿 Lucian Marin Where is Edge OS, Microsoft? Windows 11 is the new IE 11. Chrome OS is the future for enterprise and casual users.

🦇 Arr Well, Windows RT (especially on ARM) was kind of IE11-OS, with a very limited app selection.

🤘 Matthew Are you talking about the Local feed? That doesn't solve the problem of trying to have a conversation with people on your instance only to have some troll from shitposter.club or neckbeard.xyz jump in. Mastodon provides public, unlisted, followers-only, and direct--but not local-only, and unlisted isn't an adequate substitute because unlisted toots are still accessible from the open web.
🐢 Keb Ah yes, I see what you're saying. Although I think that's one of federation's greatest strengths -- I personally have not experienced trolls derailing conversations, but I reckon that can be an issue on any large enough community. Mastodon and Pleroma can definitely find better ways to help isolate users that want to be isolated.

🐢 Keb I am starting to think that any new microblog should have federation support at this point. There's too many social networks; things are too fragmented. It's definitely nice having a small community of likeminded folks, but the paradox is that every community in its early stage wants *more* users until the point where old users reminisce of the good old days when the site had "personality", and then leave to another smaller community.
🦿 Lucian Marin They said the same thing about app distribution. We have both systems: package managers and app stores.
🤘 Matthew I disagree. Federation is one of the reasons Mastodon/Pleroma are unpleasant; it contributes to context collapse and makes it harder to compartmentalize across forums. If I'm on server X, I don't want to hear from anybody on servers Y and Z (or see their untagged loli porn or alt-reich memes). If I wanted to interact with people on servers Y and Z, I'd create accounts there.
