Martijn I looked into Fountain once, for use in transcripts. Always happy to see it spread!

Aleks Call me a perfectionist, but in my efforts to avoid stock characters or one dimensional characters (they try to help or they try to stop the protagonist), I spend a day mapping out every single character in the film, who they are, what's their story, what they want, etc.

Aleks Upon completing the first draft, I will make a voice version of the screenplay, just to get the duration guesstimation right.

Aleks I'm using a few techniques to reduce the duration of the film, despite the script being long: voice-track-A on picture-track-B instead of two scenes, montages, information delivered over TV/radio while scene shows something else and so on. I also want to cut down the page count, using brevity and smarter phrases in descriptions.

Aleks : I've hit 3 hours already and I need to add 30 "uncuttable" minutes. Hopefully, I can cut 10 minutes from every hour to keep the film at 3 hours, which is as long as it needs to be.

Marlow Would you buy software from a company that doesn't use the software? A screenplay app from devs that never tried writing a short? A game the devs never played? Image editing software from people that never even looked at the GUI? Why would anyone do that? If don't dogfood, then customers ain't your bitches.

Aleks Thank you, Gods, the old gods and the new (+ the drowned god, many-faced god, etc) for . I would've needed to retype my screenplay because I wrote 90% of it outside a screenwriting app.

Aleks Performance of Google Docs for large documents (70+ pages) is abysmal. I'm writing a screenplay, just words, no tables, links or anything, pure text and the lag between keystrokes is unbelievable. Up to 2 seconds on an i7 4770. Copy-pasting is even worse and any mass changes (fonts, spacing, etc) gets an "Unresponsive Script" prompt. This is utter shit, Google. Google is the 90s Microsoft of the current era with better PR.

Aleks The closer I get to finishing it, the more I see wrong with my screenplay. The story is not about an agent vs a dissident, it's about the love-hate, user-abuser, enabler relationship between the dissident and his lovers.

Aleks I'm writing the screenplay not from the book, but from my memory. My mind is the filter for what is important and what's not. The cream will rise to the top, or so to speak.

Aleks The biggest difficulty is finding time. I can't focus on this if I keep getting new tasks to do all the time. As of now, my schedule is full yet this screenplay is falling behind schedule. They must decide if this is a priority or not... Whether they want the in-progress works to keep going or if they want this project to keep going. I can't do everything.
8y, 46w reply ¬
Aleks I'm working on a big film project. The project keeps getting bigger in scope, even though I'm still at the screenplay stage, and it's becoming harder to execute.

Marlow I'm entering the Sudwegen screenplay competition. Rules: Write an episode of "The Inheritance" - so you gotta use the preexisting storyline, characters, etc.

Doom I'm using a Avtor (2013) to write my screenplay. It was weird at first seeing everything in black and white, but after a while, you get used to it. I don't really need color for my screenplay.
