I tried Samsung Galaxy S24 in the store today. The design is amazing, camera is terrible and the software experience is horrible. I will stick with my Pixel 5 for the moment. Pixel 9 renders look promising.

I liked my Pixel 5, but a Pixel 8 Pro upgrade was free for me. I initially missed the smaller form-factor of the 5, but I quickly adapted to the 8. Getting a TPU case with a built-in MagSafe-whatever and magnetic PopSocket is a great combo.

I have. Despite all the cost and fuss (space-age pod and salty water and showers), it was just a nice quiet place to lie down for an hour. Feel free to ask me anything about it. Curious to hear if anyone had a very different experience.

Idea: Poll based social media. No texting between users in the public section. Just the possibility to doodle into events, find common interests in a "which do you prefer" style, (dating via yes/no?!), sharing links with up/downvote button, commenting on memes with funny🦘/not funny stickers. But without comments that could go toxic. Perhaps with "ask poll creator to add option" reply free text, though.

Tesla Bot is a genius AI pivot from Elon Musk. A self-driving car has unlimited degrees of freedom and the only way to reduce them is to have smart roads. Where robots can be trained to replace all workers in a warehouse for exemple. This way you keep adding specific degrees of freedom you train robots for. Also, the Bot will increase entropy in the AI field more than a fully autonomous car.

There was a public IRC/Slack but I shut it down. In addition to Unfeeder and Subreply, there are the 3 macOS apps which you can download for free. I will constantly improve Subreply because I enjoy it myself.

The prevalence of depression among grad students is astounding. There's a quote in Emmanuel Derman's memoir wherein Norman Christ notes that physicists spend half the time enthralled and the other half depressed. Lots to take from this. Reminds me of sigfig's tweet that damn near every famous physicist/mathematician thought that they were compelled by god to do their work. Seems unnecessary. Free the grad students!
