Martijn Joylent never seemed "serious" to me. Huel does look good. Would you recommend them?

Seth Kontny I wanted to try soyleny for a month. If this is what I'm hearing from you guys-- what's alternative. ? A detoxing I prefer first then jumping into some type of Soylent or alternative. ??
Asko P. I watched a documentary on Soylent. Personally, I'd rather not live on a thing that's composed in an old factory building where rats are running around and that has not gone through extensive testing. This is my health after all, the most important thing.
Mark Dain So technically I'm eating Joylent as Soylent only ships inside the USA :(. I did research before I bought a batch of Joylent. The conditions seem better but I wouldn't worry about Soylent. I saw the documentary with the rat too, that was probably because they'd only just rented the place; there wasn't proper infrastructure there as I think they'd just begun setting up what you can't even call a factory yet. I'd love to see up to date photos and videos of how they make it today; I'd expect it to be far cleaner and more controlled.

Mark Dain Thinking of getting back into Soylent/Joylent. I can't remember why I stopped but it wasn't bad. Don't expect delicious but as a "food for fuel", it worked really well.

Seth Kontny Have you used soylent? I've wanted to demo, sample one sometime. Maybe I need to reach out to company. As for autonomous design --> = <--
Mark Dain Not Soylent, but I did use the European clone, Joylent for about 2 weeks solid then I switched to using it when it's more convenient than regular food. I'm considering going back to eating it almost all the time at the moment (partly as I want to be healthier & spend less money). I cut back mostly as I was starting to hate the same taste for every meal of every day. It's easy to prepare and while I don't feel any different drinking it, I did get complements from people who hadn't seen me in a while. They said I had more color and I looked less peaky.

Martijn Indeed, I have read the shelf-life of prepared Soylent sucks. But they are actually claiming these bottles to stay fresh for a year, and according to the original inventor's blog you do not need to store it refrigerated either. Will be interesting to see how true that is once they start shipping.
Mark Dain Well that's very interesting then. I can't see how they've done that without adding preservatives and such. But yeah I'm kinda annoyed they aren't shipping to the EU yet. They're missing a huge market which can't be due to legal reasons as they could just make it in the EU like Joylent does. Heck they could acquire Joylent!

Eric Will you miss eating meat?
Mark Dain Oh yes, I imagine I'll probably continue eating meat. I don't want to replace all my meals with Joylent, just most of them.

Mark Dain Ok leaving it in the fridge overnight was the trick! No more powdery flavour! The taste has gotten a bit bland though but that may be due to the fact I put less powder in. I know it's leaving it overnight as when I shook up this shaker yesterday, I poured a bit into a glass and it still tasted like powder. The next day it tastes like a smoothie.
Eric Are these things completely vegetarian?

Martijn I read the powdery/gritty feel never really goes away. Even with the real and tweaked Soylent. Mostly because not all the components are soluble and that can't be fixed. Are you taking out conventional food completely this run?
Mark Dain I ate almost all my conventional food before my Joylent arrived. It's a shame the powder taste won't go away :( I prepared two shakers for tomorrow, both with less powder and it seems to not have any buildup at the bottom. I'll obviously eat conventional food with friends/family and occasionally if I get a craving for say, a burger

Mark Dain Maybe I didn't put enough water in or didn't leave it long enough but it tastes a bit like powder.
Eric But was it drinkable?
Orliesaurus getting mine today or tomorrow!

Mark Dain Still waiting for my Joylent order, it's been just under 3 weeks so it should be here any day now!
Martijn Is that the default delivery time? Wow!

Mark Dain I believe it's also approved, this thread has some information you can make judgements from: reddit.com/r/soyle...
Martijn Interesting! I don't use Reddit, at all, so I miss things like this. I do agree with some other replies there that Joylent's "goofy" style of marketing makes it hard for the website to inform potential buyers like me. I might see if I can dig up something from the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority.
