Nick Silvestri I am guessing this is more specifically related to CRISPR or other genetics-related technologies?
Cole Hudson Not specifically. It's not inevitable that bio should follow the same path as computing, but all the same tools seem to be lying around. For example, emerging 'Homebrew Computer Club'-like organizations such as build-a-cell [0], infrastructure such as Richard Murray's biomolecular breadboards [1], and the emerging culture of non-professionals such as [2], [3], [4], among (presumably) less-visible others. Cole Hudson I wonder if 'result-squatting' is a thing, a la domain-squatting, where you publish a paper on a trivial result to accumulate citations

Cole Hudson Is the United States more religious than Europe? My understanding is that Europe is broadly-but-casually religious whereas the US is specifically-but-actively religious, e.g. France vs the Bible Belt. Curious because I heard an argument attributing the prevalence of religion as inversely proportional to the size of a societies social safety net.

Anon T. Those strongly religious people are mostly in the South and Midwest. Anything along the coasts is less religious too.

☕ David Antoine Thanks! So not surprisingly miscommunication was part of the problem. I wonder to what extent the frantic pace of development on site has lead to it. If it has. But nice to see they are collaborating effectively. The shockwave propagation part is interesting, that potential damage radius would have to be estimated for each test and what the explosive potential is at a given phase of flight. Probably a prediction w/ the highest incertainty (eg: SN8 explosion != SN9 explosion).

Cole Hudson Given that a composite, EU-like market seems necessary to compete with China, Trump withdrawing from the TPP will be seen as one of his worst policy blunders.

Cole Hudson Curious what percentage of the world's knowledge of how to build advanced, commercial robotics is available within Boston Dynamics exclusively. Skydio also comes to mind as having great autonomous navigation software. Hope they generalize (and/or sell) the technology that allows them to build relatively small and nimble robots, would like to see more startups in that space.

☕ David Antoine Not sooooo fast! :p

☕ David Antoine That's intriguing. SN prototypes are experimental w/ high risk of explosions (i.e. SN4). I can't imagine that it was not taken into account by both parties. And I've a hard time to believe that FAA officials were still going through their review process for the test because of several changes SpaceX made in its license application, unless they submitted that very late... Then why leave the TFR active if you know your review is going to need more time? Strange. We shall see :)
Cole Hudson Just got the NOTAM! tfr.faa.gov/save_p..., looks like 2 PM UTC tomorrow at the earliest. Also saw NOTAMs for Wednesday and Thursday. Re: the FAA, agree it is odd, but hey, bureaucrats gonna bureaucrat
