🏒 Lucian Marin It's strange how in this day and age no operating system can play all the video files without installing a third party application. I won't blame your family, but the monopolistic software vendors and patent holders.

Mark Dain Apparently Windows 10 can play MKV natively so perhaps we're getting closer to this

Eric Spot on, it's always refreshing when a media player can (unexpectedly) play pretty much anything. The app I use for chromecasting local video files hasn't thrown its toys out the pram over anything yet, even the more obscure formats. External-file subtitle support is something every media player should strive for.
