That's basically what I do at work. Our platform is only ~4 years old though, I can imagine it being even more painful at 7 years.

It's horrendous. So many ancient .NET controls/table generators to strip out. So much refactoring. It's not even our platform per se, rather a bespoke job the company did years ago that only now has been deemed in need of an update by the client. My eyes, my eyes...
